The story of your baby’s birth…

A lot of moms I’ve met in my work have expressed to me that they wished they had more or better photos of their baby’s birth. I can tell you as a mom, myself, the moment of birth is incredibly powerful, but also a blur. Having a professional photographer attend your birth means getting to keep clear and beautiful memories of your journey into parenthood and your baby’s first moments.

My goal is to be a quiet, supportive presence at your birth, and to give you beautiful memories.

Not all expecting mothers or parents are the same. Not all births are the same. A big part of my job is to be as invisible as possible, and yet open to offering words of support when you ask me to. For the most part, I want to document your birth as you experience it, moment to moment. When a doula isn’t present, and the nurse is out of the room, and you need help or support, I am here for you to offer emotional support if you need me, but mostly I am there to do true documentary coverage.

Birth is a vulnerable experience, but it’s also an incredibly powerful one. It’s the moment that you become a parent and your baby becomes a little person out in the world. It’s a day unlike any other in your life, so I highly recommend hiring a birth photographer if it’s something you want to remember! If you’re here, I am guessing you do!

I am so honored to be able to document such an important time in the lives of families here in Bend, Oregon.

FAQs

What’s a fresh 48?

If you know birth photography isn’t for you but you still want memories of your baby’s first days, a fresh 48 is for you! These sessions are scheduled within the first 2 days of your baby’s life and show the new bond between baby, you, and your partner and family. I’ll come to you at hospital or home to document all the tiny moments!

What is it like to work with you?

I try really hard to get to know my expecting moms and dads so I can fit into their experience in a way that works well for them. If they want me to be a fly on the wall (which is most common) I try to be as invisible as I can. Some families prefer to have casual interactions with me or talk about my experience with an aspect of birth they are going through in the moment.

Before we work together, I’ll spend some time getting to know you and your preferences around your birth photos. This will help me on the day to fit into your ideal birth experience.

What about a doula?

For the best possible birth experience I definitely recommend hiring a doula. They can support you emotionally and physically through the birth process, and they know a lot about your choices and options. I had a doula for the birth of our son and it made my experience so positive. If you’re interested in seeking out a doula, you can find the doula I used at www.bloombirthdoula.com. Maddy is a wonderful, supportive doula. I can’t say enough great things about her!

Will my photos be shared on your website or social media?

I only share photos that I have your permission to share. I give all my clients 60 days from the time I deliver their images to favorite the ones they are okay with me sharing. Your comfort and consent is very important to me. I only chose to share one image from my birth online, and the rest I have kept close to my heart. I respect whatever decision you make when it comes to sharing images online.

When Will i receive my images?

I will deliver a selection of 10 images to you within 6-12 hours of your birth to share with friends and family or keep for yourself. In that selection I try to share a family portrait and a portrait of baby.

The full collection will be delivered within 2 weeks of the birth.

How does on-call time work?

My on-call time is 2 weeks. That’s typically 1 week before and 1 week after your due date. Outside of the on-call time, if I am available I will be there, but I can’t guarantee an open schedule outside of my on-call time.

Occasionally, I will have conflicts in my schedule during your on-call time. I’ll always inform you of that before you book with me, and I’ll talk with you about setting up a backup shooter during the time I am unavailable. This is typical for doulas, midwives, and doctors as well.
