Black Butte Resort is famous for it’s mountain views, quiet surroundings and family recreation. If you’re visiting Black Butte, I reccomend taking advantage of the natural beauty and relaxed setting to get some family photos taken! My specialty is in making sessions a fun adventure rather than a boring chore.
Family portrait session: $650
Families of 10+: $900
Includes: 1 hour of shooting, your choice of location in Central Oregon, 80 full resolution files, custom processing and an online gallery.

Family vacations are the absolute best time to get portraits taken. Everyone is relaxed, well rested and having a fun time together. It’s a wonderful way to mark the experience and keep the memory of your trip. Black Butte Ranch is an incredible destination with a lot to offer as far as photo opportunities, so let’s make some memories!
Whether you’re just one family unit or gathering for a 75+ person family reunion, it’s my job to make your session as fun and relaxed as possible. I’ll ask grandma and grampa how long they’ve been married, make fake farting noises for the 6-10 year olds and play peekaboo with the babies. I want this to be fun, and for you to get some great photos to take home with you.

FAQs
Where should we shoot?
Black Butte Ranch has it all really. There’s mountain views, lakes, rivers, beautiful grassy fields and enchanting pine forests. With smaller groups, we can usually get 2-3 backgrounds in your session, for larger groups, I usually suggest picking one location that everyone can find easily with bathrooms nearby. Don’t worry, I’ll help you pick a great location for lighting, natural beauty and convenience.
What should we wear?
I usually suggest finding a color palette that you like on Pinterest (I’ve pinned some ideas here for you) and having everyone in the family dress within that color palette. You don’t want everyone to be “matchy-matchy”, but you want there to be a good color theme. This technique is especially helpful when trying to coordinate a large family session with extended family members.
Avoid super bright colors or intense patterns. If it’s cold, try to dress appropriately for the weather, especially with little ones.
How are extended family sessions structured?
Typically, I will start with the large family shot, then shoot each individual family in order of who has the youngest kids to the oldest, or if you have older family members who can’t stand up for long periods of time, I try to work with them first.
If you have a large extended family, I suggest creating a shot list with all the combinations you want. That helps us move through the shots efficiently and get more done! I’ve got LOTS of experience working with large families, so not to worry, I can calm the chaos and make magic happen!
What if my child doesn’t smile?
I have a lot of things I can try from fake fart noises, to puppets to corny jokes depending on the age of your kiddo, but sometimes, they just don’t have a smile in them to give that day, and that’s okay. Through the years, I’ve noticed that the harder parents try to get their kids to smile, the less likely they are to do it (or to do it naturally). Kids sense our stress, so I try not to force anything during my sessions, and 99% of the time, I get natural smiles by the end.
When Will i receive my images?
Images will be delivered to you via online gallery within 2 weeks of your shoot, sometimes sooner, but never later. During the holidays, I do quicker turnarounds, typically, so families can have their holiday cards sent out in time.
What is the best time of day to shoot?
Sunset is my favorite time of day to shoot, but it doesn’t work for many younger kids and babies. For younger ones, I recommend shooting earlier in the morning (before 10am) for the best lighting, but we can make most times of day work.
Some locations lend themselves better to mid-day shoots, so we’ll talk through what locations would work best for your family’s schedule.
